As much as we all want to click the “Book Now” button when we see those spa getaway ads that seem to follow us online, it’s just not realistic. After all, you have that thing called a “career” and if you’re a mom, well… time off is about as likely as the sun starting to set again after 5pm. But alas, until the next time you finally get some me-time, a woman can dream, can she not?
We’re here to say, “wake up, lady!” - just because you can’t be relaxing at a resort up in Whistler, doesn’t mean you can’t bring the spa to you!
Before you get started with your at home spa skin treatment, here’s a few things you’ll need:
- Dry body brush
- Epsom salts or essential oils
- Body oil
And of course, you can’t have a spa night in without the essentials: bottle of wine, a few candles tastefully arranged (for the ‘gram of course), and a chillout playlist, maybe from the 90’s.
Step 1: Stimulating Dry Brush
With your candles lit, music playing, and a few sips less left in your glass, it’s time for step one of this luxurious at home body treatment.
We start with dry brushing, a simple method of gentle exfoliation that helps stimulate the body’s lymphatic system and improves circulation, digestion, and even reduces the appearance of cellulite.
Use a soft, but firm brush like this one for best results and rub all over your body, starting from your legs upwards.
Also, aways brush upwards towards your heart and do this for about 5 minutes before moving on to step 2.
Step 2: Rejuvenating Bath or Shower
As cliche as it may sound, having a hot bath or shower is one of the best ways to feel relaxed.
A hot bath on it’s own is relaxing enough, but add some epsom salts to the steaming water and you’re on your way to something special. With its muscle relaxing properties, if you close your eyes, you might just start to imagine a tall, strong blonde Austrian man named Hansel giving you a soothing massage.
1 to 2 cups of epsom salt added while running the water is all that’s needed to get you started!
We know not all ladies are fans of a long soak, so if a hot shower is more your thing, we’ve got you covered. Simply place a few drops of soft, sweet scents of your favorite essential oils onto the shower floor to instantly enhance your experience. Once you get in and feel the warm steam combined with the aroma envelope you, you’ll fall into a bliss you never knew existed until just that moment.
A few of our favorite essential oils for steaming are; ylang ylang, chamomile, and lavender.
Step 3: Moisturizing Body Oil
Assuming you can peel yourself out of the tub, step three is all about the hydration. Before you reach for the towel, you’re going to apply body oil to your wet skin.
You’re probably wondering, “Why wet skin?”
A body oil won’t work nearly as well when applied to dry skin that’s already lost its moisture and will have to work 10x as hard to absorb, most likely resulting in that greasy top layer that nobody enjoys dealing with.
On the other hand, when massaged onto damp skin, the water droplets on your skin along with the body oils will blend together and penetrate the skin, while also sealing in moisture. A few drops of oil is all you need, but to minimize the risk of spillage or using too much, try our Vanilla Scented Face and Body Oil that comes in a handy spray bottle for easy application.
Next time you’re feeling like a little me-time is in order, give yourself the night off and relax with this luxurious at home body treatment. Enjoy!
